In-school band lessons
Every week one of our expert band coaches will lead a 30 minute session that happens during the school day. Rehearsals are always fun, exciting a highlight of the school week. Through consistent band practice, the children develop real-life skills including collaboration, listening, patience, teamwork and initiative.
Be a part of a band
Give your child the pure joy of a jam session with friends. Being part of an iRock band means children learn to work together and improve their listening skills, whilst each having an important part to play. Children can choose if they want to be a drummer, an electric guitarist, a vocalist or a keyboard player. Together the children will select their song choices as well as coming up with a unique band name.
Exam-free qualification
iRock offers children enrolled the chance to work towards an exam-free Ofqual-regulated music qualification, delivered in partnership with globally recognised awarding body in Contemporary Arts, RSL. Children are assessed within their regular iRock lessons, allowing them to develop key musical and performance skills naturally—without extra work or additional costs. Our carefully structured curriculum ensures that every child, in every year group, is always working towards their next achievement, making their musical journey both rewarding and fun.

Frequently Asked Questions
With iRock School of Music, band lessons are taught using a modern, hands-on approach that makes learning music fun, accessible, and engaging for every child. There is no sheet music or passive theory. From the very first session, children play popular songs together in a real band setting. Our curriculum structures lessons like band rehearsals, focusing on active listening, collaboration, technical skill, and stage confidence. Children are encouraged to explore, experiment, and take creative risks while being expertly guided by trained iRock School of Music Band Coaches. Each child progresses at their own pace while developing teamwork, resilience, and self-belief.
Most iRock band lessons are funded through a simple monthly subscription paid by parents or guardians. This flexible approach includes a first-lesson money-back guarantee, no payments during the summer holidays, and the freedom to cancel at any time. To make music education accessible to all families, iRock also offers funded and subsidised places in partnership with schools. Every school receives at least one free bursary place, with additional places available through iRock’s matched funding scheme, where iRock funds one extra place for every five pupils supported by the school. Schools can also use their Pupil Premium Grant or shared-funding options to further reduce costs for families. Together, these options help remove financial barriers so more children can enjoy the confidence, wellbeing, and joy of being part of an iRock band. Teachers and School Business Managers: contact us for more information on our funding options.

iRock School of Music is a leading provider of in-school rock and pop band lessons for primary schools across the UK including Northern Ireland. We specialise in helping children learn music by playing together in real bands, using a modern, practical approach that is fun, engaging, and accessible to all abilities. Unlike traditional music lessons, our focus is on learning through performance rather than sheet music or exams. Children choose an instrument, play popular songs from day one, and develop musical skills alongside confidence, teamwork, and self-belief. We work in partnership with schools to deliver high-quality music education at no cost to the school. We supply all instruments, experienced and passionate Band Coaches, and full administration. Lessons take place during the school day and are funded through a simple monthly subscription paid by parents and guardians. Through live performances, exam-free qualifications, and an emphasis on collaboration, iRock School of Music inspires a lifelong love of music while helping children grow both musically and personally.
Lessons take place during the school day and last 30 minutes, similar to other peripatetic classes. Children are grouped by age and year group and learn together in bands of up to nine pupils, ensuring everyone receives individual attention. Children choose their role - drummer, guitarist, keyboard player, or lead singer - , and begin making music together from day one.
iRock band lessons are suitable for children from Reception through to Year 6 (P1 to P7 in Northern Ireland).
All lessons are delivered by trained and experienced iRock Band Coaches. Our Band Coaches are part of a wider national support network, ensuring lessons continue even if a coach is unwell or on holiday.
Through iRock, children develop musical ability alongside confidence, collaboration, and stage presence. As part of their journey, pupils in Years 2 and 6 (P3 and P7 in Northern Ireland) can achieve a qualification in Group Performance (Music), delivered in partnership with the Contemporary Arts awarding body, RSL Awards who are regulated by Ofqual. This exam-free qualification recognises progress across five key development areas that make up a spiral curriculum; where knowledge and skills are revisited regularly, but each time at a deeper, more challenging level. The five areas are: listening, collaboration, musicality, technicality and character (stage presence). While the qualification is a valuable achievement, the greatest impact comes from the holistic outcomes of these five areas being worked in in every lesson: increased self-esteem, teamwork skills, and confidence that benefit children far beyond the classroom.
